COVID-19 Care Q & A

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an infection caused bythat the SARS-CoV-2 virus causes. While most people with COVID-19 experience mild to moderate symptoms, such as a cough and nasal congestion, the infection can be a serious health threat to others. COVID-19 is particularly dangerous for individuals with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular disease.

The infection primarily attacks the respiratory system, interfering with your ability to breathe comfortably, but it can impact every area of your body. Prevention is the best defense against the infection, but if you already have a positive case, Brock Family Care can provide the COVID-19 care you need to remain healthy.

How do I know if I need COVID-19 care?

COVID-19 symptoms typically develop within 2-14 days of infection. Symptoms vary from person to person, so you may not realize you have the infection at first. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Lost sense of taste or smell
  • Body aches
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Nasal congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue

If you experience severe signs of COVID-19, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or confusion, Mrs. Brock recommends heading to your nearest emergency room (ER) for treatment.

How is COVID-19 diagnosed?

The common method to diagnose COVID-19 is through testing. The two most common COVID-19 tests are polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antigen (rapid) testing. A rapid test can produce results within minutes or hours, so you’re likely to get your results shortly after your visit. PCR test results can take a few days.

Both forms of COVID-19 testing take only a few minutes to perform. Mrs. Brock inserts a nasopharyngeal swab into one of your nostrils and twirls it around to collect the specimen she needs for testing. She then repeats the process in your other nostril and sends the samples to the lab.

Is COVID-19 treatable?

Absolutely! The best way to recover from COVID-19 is to treat early. If your test comes back positive for COVID-19 or you start experiencing any of the symptoms above, call Brock Family Care to schedule an appointment immediately. You will have the option of coming into the office to be treated or scheduling a telehealth appointment.

There are several OTC (over-the-counter) supplements that helps boost your immune system so it can fight diseases; the most common ones used to fight COVID-19 are Vitamin C, D, Zinc, and Quecertin. Depending on your symptoms, Mrs. Brock may also prescribe an antibiotic, or any other medications as she sees appropriate for your specific situation.

Talk to Mrs. Brock about any new or worsening symptoms you experience while you recover. At Brock Family Care, intravenous (IV) hydration and infusion therapy are available to deliver fluids, medications, and supplements quickly to support your recovery.
